Angeline Malik is not just an actor; she is a producer, a director, a sculptor and an advocate of voicing relevant social issues. She has created dramas choosing subjects related to women empowerment, child abuse and other issues considered a taboo subject.

Here we look at three telefilms which focus on these social issues and have Angeline Malik in them as the lead character.

1. Bubbly

Bubbly is a drama which focuses on the life of a blind beggar woman called Sughra who is treated badly by her no good husband and has a four year old daughter who she is trying to raise and protect from the harsh realities of the world.

In addition to being the sole breadwinner of the family she also manages all the household chores, while her husband wastes all their money on gambling.

Watch the drama to see if Sughra be able to protect her daughter and raise her right.

2. Reshma To Jhalli Hai

Reshma was sold to a woman when she was five years old. She grew up believing in and trusting the woman who - once she was all grown up- went on to sell her to a man for 20,000 rupees.

For a year, Reshma does all the housework and suffers a lot of abuse at the hands of this man before she tries to contact the woman who left her with the man. The woman sends her back to the house of her master promising to help her.

Will Reshma's trust be broken again? Will she be able to escape?

And what place does a helpless woman have in a society which refuses to accept her either way?

3. Meri Awaz

This telefilm features a mute woman who lives on the street in a marketplace, this woman is known to most people as "pagli" and is often aggressive to the people around her, scaring them away with rocks.

The shopkeepers and other men in the market hold different opinions regarding her, some feel bad for her, others want to get rid of her while there are some who regard as a means of liveliness in the market. What will become of pagli who is living her life under the open sky? Will she be safe from the world she so aggressively tries to protect herself from? This drama did not only feature Angeline Malik but is also produced by her.

Watch these telefilms and tell us what you think.

Did you know that Pakistan has produced content on social issues before as well?
